Program Description In Humber's Photography diploma program, your studies will combine technology, business and the creative skills you need for a successful career in photography. From advertising photography to editorial and portraiture, to video and e-commerce imaging, you will leave this program prepared to fully engage in a plethora of career options. You will learn the visual communications skills necessary to enter the industry as a highly trained professional. Learn photography using the latest equipment taught by experienced imaging faculty who know the industry. An advisory committee made up of a wide range of still and motion professionals ensures our photography program remains leading-edge, covering the latest innovations and meeting the needs of a wide variety of clients. A comprehensive curriculum focuses on image capture techniques, as well as creative and conceptual proficiency. You will also learn practical skills such as studio and location lighting, colour and black-and-white printing, and advanced image post-production editing to help you ensure your digital and hard copy outputs are prepared to industry standards. Following a work placement in final semester, the program culminates with a gallery portfolio show where the students network with industry, and introduce their skills with portfolios, video footage and large format prints. The program includes a 72-hour work placement, providing you with a chance to apply your skills in a real-life professional setting. The program works with industry for technical support and postings to help students find their placements. The Internet and digital photography have radically altered the photographic industry. Thousands of websites, e-books, e-zines and other online publications have joined the hundreds of print publications in North America that are constantly searching for good photography to illustrate their content. In addition, there are growing wedding, portrait and editorial opportunities in print, digital and motion capture formats. Our graduates work in diverse areas of the industry. There are many photography studios and agencies in Ontario, with most in Toronto. Many graduates operate freelance businesses and studios.
